After work today the temp in my car read 104', when will the cooler temperatures get here? I am greatful for the cooler nights, my tomato plants are doing well. Still working on some of the beds in the back garden. I have so many things I want to do this season. So many things to do. I've got to get back to Southern Horticulture to get that sweet almond bush, I absolutely have to have it, among some other things.

we're almost there

Hello all, this is it!!!!!

Today is the last day of summer and tomorrow starts the official season of FALL!!!!!!! Bins are down from the attic and I am ready to get the house in order. The gardens are looking good also. Started edging an existing bed with variegated Aztec grass. The rain here in the last few days has been wonderful. Nothing is looking out of sorts.

I have plans to add some schrubs to the garden this fall as well as remove some grass in the front garden to enlarge a circular bed that his been getting bigger every year. Certainly by this time next year, I want have any grass growing in the front garden, except where it is sneaking in. I am so excited about seeing other garden blogs on the web. They have really inspired me. I hope my blog inspires those who read it also. Well here are some pictures of what's going on in my garden right now. Enjoy!!!!

STILL HOT

Well ya'll I thought that cooler days were here, but after this last week i am not so sure. Yes the calendar says that we are 8 days from the first day of fall, but you can't tell with temps in the 90's and the grass crunches when you walk on it. I don't care much about the lawn as I am slowly replacing it anyway. But my garden is still requiring a weekly deep watering. I am sure JEA doesn't mind that one bit. But my wallet surely does. This year I am growing 3 varities of peas in my fall raised bed (pictures pending) the seedling are reaching for the ceiling in my livingroom. I have a small green house set up for seed starting as it is still too hot to use the growing setup in the garage. I can't wait until the full force of fall is here. My dogwood tree's leaves are already starting to yello0w and the neighborhood Sycamore leaves are starting to lighten in color. After next week I hope the days will be slightly cooler and of the course the nights. Will let you know how it goes. Happy gardening!!!!!

Weekend Adventure

I had the opportunity to visit Southern Horticulture in St Augustine and had a fabulous time. If you live in north Florida it is a trip worth taking. THe flowers were awesome and the staff was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions about the various plants. I learned a few things about growing bromeliads that I definitely didn't know. After trying unsuccessfully with two plants I had given up on them. I will give it one more try with the new knowledge that I have. Here are some of the pictures we took on our visit. I will be purchasing several of these plants for my garden. Hope you like them.

cooler days are here

Well it is starting

to fill a little like fall. Here in north Florida the mornings are cooler and the evenings are awesome. I have started my cool season vegetables in flats and purchased and potted a few tomatos in containers. Raised bed is ready for planting. Weekend is looking good for some first class gardening. Have a good one.

last days of summer

Here we are in the last days of summer 20 days to be exact, then the cooling morning and evenings of fall will be fast approaching. I visited Meems blog this morning at Hoe and Shovel, was so impressed with her caladiums that I went out and got some myself. In my rear garden protected by a large live oak, they should thrive, will post their image after i get them in the ground. Have a good holiday weekend and don't forget to check on my blog later if you have the time. Happy gardening.
